6 Essential Somnee Care Tips to Level Up Your Sleep

Want to make sure you’re getting the most from your Somnee sessions? Here are our top 6 care tips to keep your Somnee Smart Sleep Headband working at peak performance.

#1 Keep movement minimal
Once you’ve started your session, stick to gentle movements. Reading, stretching, journaling, meditating, and listening to calming music are great. 

Avoid more active full-body movement and activities like brushing your teeth and eating, which can cause electrodes to shift and disrupt your session. 

#2 Fully wash and dry your forehead
Moisturizers, face creams, and oils that naturally build up over the day can interfere with Somnee’s nightly stimulation. Using water, fully clean and dry your forehead before your session.

Pro tip: Use an alcohol wipe to ensure your forehead is squeaky clean and dry before starting your session.

#3 Watch out for dry electrodes
With proper storage on the charging mount, Somnee’s electrodes should last 3 nights. However, electrodes may dry faster in winter when the heat’s on full blast or if left in the sun during the summer. 

Pro tip: Keep unused electrodes safely stored in a drawer that protects them from light and temperature. If electrodes feel dry, swap them for new ones!

#4 Avoid using on irritated skin
Skip your Somnee sessions until any acne or blemishes heal, to reduce the risk of irritation. Or, you can try shifting your headband so the electrodes aren’t directly on top of blemishes.

#5 Clear stray hair out of the way
Even small follicles of hair that get caught between the electrodes and your skin can cause irritation and disrupt session effectiveness.

Pro tip: Use a headband to pull all hair back and place electrodes on hair-free spots on the forehead.

#6 Wash headband every 2 weeks
Keep your Somnee clean by removing the electronics and hand-washing the silk headband with soap and water. You can clean the EEG sensors on the headband electronics by gently using an alcohol wipe to clean.
